Carnival Of Flesh

So I am actually intrigued by this band as they are actually from the capital city of Kyiv in Ukraine, they have been around for a long time now as it turns out as they have been together since 2000. They have also been through a lot of changes in their lineup, but their musical beginnings kicked off with an EP in 2002 titled INTERUTERINE DILEMMS as they released their debut album also in 2003 called KILLER ABSORPTION. A demo followed in the following year in 2004 and then their second album came out in 2006 which was titled MAY GOD STRIKE ME DEAD, another demo also was out in 2007. Their third studio album was next up in 2008 and that was titled WAKE UP FOR FREEDOM before another demo came in 2011.
Well even after so many changes in lineup, the band as it stands is being fronted by Italian singer MICHELE BORNIOTTO who joined in 2020 during covid, as the remaining members are all from Ukraine. We have guitarists IGOR LYSTOPAD who was an original founding member of the band in 2000 and on bass guitar is RUSLAN DROZD, who joined in 2012. Their drummer EDUARD LITVIAKOV joined much later in the year of 2018 just two years before their new singer came along. In the years following their third album, came three more albums, the first of these was released in 2012, DEFIANCE TO EVIL then in 2016 was the arrival of DENIAL OF THE SCRIPTURES and two EP's also in between these releases were out as well.
Now as of December 2022, the band have released what is their sixth studio album and it was called CARNIVAL OF FLESH which has a total of ten tracks starting with "Distorted Lights" as we hear grinding guitar riffs and brutal bashing of drums as well, as we hear so much of the band's own sound which is deadly death metal nowadays. The heavy duty drum patterns are so quick and clinical in their precision of hitting the right notes at the right time. So much harsh and mind blowing fusion of death metal and even hints of thrash metal as well can be heard in this track. The tempo and momentum is strong and the band's great advantage and it does slow down at one point but only goes back to full on mass mania before we enter the next track which is "Carnival Of Flesh".
The second track is merely sharing and repeating ideas from before, there are more static cymbal hits, but the guitar riffs do stop and start also so not as continuous yet still has a great impact on the listener. Vocals have so much depth and projection but drums does certainly make the biggest contribution driving the entire band from one section to another so easily and without too much effort. "Inhuman Existence" with a clatter and thumping drum pattern as vocals become excruciating and dangerous as they growl like a wild beast, as drums or guitar guides the track along the same path of destruction and obscenity but in a very effective way. "Buried Truth" comes in with guitar screeching with vibrato and vocals influencing each element to take the leap of faith into discord and dismay.
Later on in the track around halfway is my favourite part is the execution from drums and also the partnership of guitars with drums, to produce a slightly different sort of sound that is unlike what we have heard so far. There is a slow fade out in this track, I didn't even expect this and we hear mellow guitar in the far distance before we head into the next track which is "Modern Arts Of Slavery". Crashing in with cymbal hits as attacking vocals and an injection of slashing guitar riffs, as they go head to head with the rampage of drums. There isn't much time for any of the elements to breathe or take a short pause, as this is very much the consistency we can strive for from this track.
So next in line is "Hive Of Insanity" as the monstrous vocals are as deadly as before, electric guitar swooping in with vibrato bursts of exertion. Drums do spread themselves out in terms of the width and stereo image of this track, let alone the pace they set is just sinister beyond anything, as this is true death metal coming straight into your face, no questions asked. The tempo is interesting as the drums go from pelting patterns to half the time measure so the contrast here is very well arranged with lots of good ideas. "Invisible Reality" continues on with similar drum patterns and the full band mixed together even with bass guitar jumping out at one or two points. Electrifying as before with so much vile and disgust, as vocals or guitars bring out so much of these two themes.
There isn't much interval or breaks in this track either but we move on swiftly to the next track which is "Frail Utopia" as another blaster of pure filth and nastiness. So much clashing and ringing from drums especially as a long enduring track that has so much to rely on, with lashings of cymbals and guitars like a raging bull charging through the track like it was straightforward. This track doesn't actually last too long, only under three minutes long and into the next one which is "War Is An Amusement" as we hear rebellious guitar streaks with the alarming but attacking drum patterns. Even a slight pause before electric guitar goes wild and is on a one man mission for control and dominance as well with vibrato and screeches high in range. This again a short track but we can't stop as we head right into the last track of this album.
"Ad Astra" is also a short enough track as it is the final and last encore we will hear, slashing through with edge drum patterns that cut through the mix as guitars proceed to bare inner souls to the listener, as vocals are raw and worthy of praise. Drums even create a few nicely arranged passages of play with dynamics and cueing the guitars to come in at the right time as well. Then it is full on pedal to the metal as we approach the end, overall this is a good contribution by this death metal from Ukraine, very much hitting the spot and making such efforts to fulfil their potential as they have done so.
