As are a lot of bands in these times, FEAROUT is difficult to categorize. FEAROUT is out of Helsinki, Finland and identify as a Rock/Metal/Punk/Stoner outfit. I would agree with the Rock label and nominally agree with the Punk label under the condition that we mean a radio-friendly Indy Punk as opposed to a Hardcore Punk. They released their debut album, "Bleedthrough," on November 5, 2021 via Inverse Records. It includes 12 tracks and clocks out at around 50 minutes, meaning most of the tracks run about three to five minutes. It's a middle of the road album with some moments that may appeal to Metal sensibilities.

FEAROUT features cleans but slightly gritty vocals accompanied with lots of harmonies-in fact, all four members are credited with some level of vocals. The riffs are all harmonious as well, not in the technical sense, but aesthetically speaking-meaning there is little discord or dissonance but rather lots of melody and hooks. And all of that is good if you are into Rock or Pop Metal, but I think extreme or even underground Metal fans will have little to no patience for it.

"Bleedthrough" is one of those albums without any real standout tracks, but at the same time none of the songs are truly bad. They are all okay. I know some people will read that as a complete panning of the band, but I think the reality is they have potential. From my estimation what they are missing is passion, a deeper sense of purpose for their music. It is technically good enough but viscerally lacking. I should note that production values are strong, so nothing amiss there. Also, all of these musicians are clearly well talented in their craft, so no complaints there either.

Final analysis: I am probably not the best person to be reviewing this album as my tastes veer more towards Extreme Underground Metal as opposed to aspiring Mainstream Rock. With that in mind, and depending on your willingness to explore, I would at least recommend a solid listen. Again, some good potential but perhaps need more definitive cause.
