Fear Of Domination - Distorted Delusions album cover

FEAR OF DOMINATION is a Shock / Industrial Metal band out of Nurmijavi, Finland.  They are a six piece act who has previously released two other albums in 2009, and 2011 respectively. "Distorted Delusions" offers up 12 new tracks for this review.

An electronic keyboard opening to "Paper Doll" quickly turns into a scorching Power Metal inspired riff. But Saku's vocals contrast with a deep, dark, rich snarl; the sound of a bastard child between the mighty CHILDREN OF BODOM and DIMMU BORGIR.  The song is just sleek, polished and powerful, letting the melody of the chorus shine like a ray of sunshine piercing through an ominous sky.

In "Wicked World", Saku commands the vocal parts with confidence, variety and professionalism. He is without a doubt a highlight of this band and the glue that seems to hold the sound together just so well.  I feel like I am in a bright, silver colored automated machine shop, where there are blasts of things being made all around me, in Technicolor.

"Parasite" is like a love gone wrong.  A love story of two creatures banned from the earth because of their cruel, perversities. The overall song has a nice, melancholy H.I.M. vibe to it, which I enjoy. "Deus Ex Machina" is another fresh track, diversifying the portfolio of songs on the album even more. There are some really catchy key and chord changes in the track, and a chorus with delectable texture. "Organ Grinder" is like a lullaby gone wrong. Other album highlights include the shadowy mystery of "Needle," where there are guest female vocals, if I am not mistaken. It's a grand composition, with symphonic leanings. Nor should I fair to mention the all-out attack of "Dead Space."

Great job on the album. The music is vivacious, engaging and diversified, taking full advantage of a large spectrum of sounds, chords and harmonies, while thumping your skull with a Metal hammer. Though they clearly have an industrial sound, they do not let the keyboards or electronica in the driver's seat all of the time. Instead, the music is dynamic, focusing on original songwriting, densely connected instrumental parts, and a delivery of sparkling production. They are fresh, inventive, fun and high spirited in a diabolical sort of way.
