FASTWAY is an almost 30 year old band formed by Fast Eddie Clark. They brought out their debut self-titled album in 1983, but there has been no new work released since 1990. Well after some member shifts we've arrived in 2012 and in the meantime their new "Eat Dog Eat" album's released through Steamhammer Records. A Great Rock / Metal album that kicks some serious ass in an old fashioned way.
This album did get to me and hit home at the very first spin. The singer did sound so familiar to me, but couldn't place him until I started my research and did find out that the vocalistToby Jepson is Ex - LITTLE ANGELS. No wonder that he sounded so familiar. I have two albums of them inside my collection, one from 1989 and one from 1991, so no wonder I couldn't place him right away, simply because voices do change over a period of 20 years. Still he still has a wonderful voice to listen to, just like Fast Eddie Clark's still able to touch with his experienced guitar play, but also the drummer Matt Eldrige puts down solid work that suits this trio perfectly.
The album "Eat Dog Eat" from FASTWAY is brought in an old genre, but influenced in a way that makes it still suit today. It's filled with Metal and Rock sounds, including ballads and sing-alongs. Their experience makes this album sound so easy and predictable, but at the same time it's not. Lyrics and music do contain a built in complexity and depth, available for those who are able to step inside and feel what "Eat Dog Eat" is all about.
This album drags you in with a cry out backed up by a sincere voice, steady guitar play, solid drum and easy bass sounds, that's steering towards self-containing control. The album moves with memories expressed inside-experience, ways to go and sights to see, feelings that do shine through vocal lines and guitar lines very clearly. This entire album does show the writing collaboration between Fast Eddie Clark and Toby Jepson, how and where they did add to each other and why they did love it enough to make the effort to get it released?
From my point of view they did a great job with this album "Eat Dog Eat" and I do hope that they will not wait 20 years before they'll bring out the next album.
