Eyes Wide Open - Aftermath album cover

EYES OPEN WIDE hails from the hotbed of Sweden and has taken the earth by storm in a very short time. Formed in 2011, the band's debut EP "Revelation" (2012) garnered them a following and airplay worldwide and earned them spots on several Metal / Rock festivals in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark.

Not to rest on their quick success, the band released their full-length CD "Aftermath" in December 2013. These guys are intense, talented, speaker shattering glory with big riffs, strong vocal that scream, howl, growl, and are melodic, and they take the listener on a journey both unique and otherworldly. The song "Foxdie" is the prime example. It is written in tribute to Metal Gear and the character Hideo Kojima. The band is even holding a fan contest to create a video using Metal Gear and the song. All info and assets are available on the bands website.

The album opens with the title track and immediately shows off their diversity; soft guitars, soft singing leads you to keys and a mind trip into a dreamland only to be shot with the power of their onslaught of sound. Intensity and talent on full display on track one. "Avalanche" follows with aggressive riff work, strong drums, and bass while the versatility of vocalist Patrik Fahlin has come shown full circle in the first two songs alone. This one has anthem written all over it and should be heard on every station on the planet. "Foxdie" itself, the albums third track, is Metal Gear worthy and should be in the game itself. Wicked writing and a wicked song full of changes and power. "New World Order" follows and is more aggression in a melodic way with some deep throaty vocals tearing apart your consciousness. The song "Red" takes you in another direction completely with some nice bass picking, melodic guitar work and harmonics along with some softer voicing before the band kicks in some power for effect without letting it dominate the song and where it began.

The bands music has all the ingredients of belonging on the world's stages and my guess is they will be sooner rather than later. A must have.
