Today we have the band EXTREMITY and their very first full length album "Coffin Birth". Hailing from Oakland, California the band formed in 2016. For fans of CARCASS, ENTOMBED and DEATH I highly recommend this band! So without further ado let us begin our quest into "Coffin Birth"!
"Coffin Birth / A Million Witches" is up first. I absolutely love the intro but I have never understood mixing an intro with a song. In this case it works out pretty well but it's still unnecessary. This really sets the tone for the album and I will say I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS TRACK! Dueling vocals are awesome especially this mix between Shelby Lermo and Marissa Martinez-Hoadly who both play the guitars as well! "Where Evil Dwells" keeps this avalanche of metal rolling towards our coffin deaths! I love the change in tempo that goes from kicking you in the head to gently stabbing you in the back repeatedly. The solos are sick as fuck and they really add to this Death Metal Opus.
"Grave Mistake" is an absolute headbanger. I can only imagine what the pit turns into during this kick ass song. Aesop Dekker kills it on the drums the cadence between the Vocals, Guitars and Drums is fantastic. "UMBILICUS" is just as great as any of the previous songs so far. The song "For Want Of A Nail" is like this big metal freight train riding through your ears in the best way possible. Once again there is nothing I can find wrong with this song at all. I have a sinking suspicion that this may get a perfect from me.
"Occision" keeps the pace of "Coffin Birth" going and kind of reminds of SIX FEET UNDER a bit at certain points. In my opinion the most brutal song is "Like Father Like Son". It has everything that a death metal song should have. From the shredding guitars to the amazing gutturals and sick drums. I love that it slows down just to pick right back up and delight your ears with an ass kicking! Now for the final track we have "Misbegotten / Coffin Death". I guess I can forgive the mixing of intros and outros with songs because they did it so well. It starts off with very nice acoustic work which I really love and then strays right into some of the best Death Metal I have heard in a while. I also appreciate that it's the longest song on "Coffin Death". Just pure brutality for almost seven minutes. That is how you end a fucking album!
