The name itself marks this band as a legend to which has remained as one of the most important bands both in Thrash and in Death Metal, EXMORTUS first started their crusade of fast and destructive tunes back in two thousand and three with the release of their first demo entitled "Dawn of Apocalypse". Since then the band released two more demos to join the first to which lead to the band's first EP entitled "Reign of the Ear Gods", along with "In Hatred's Flame" the band was set to release their very first full length release to which would start a new flame in both extremity and in speed, the record to which is named the same as the bands second EP "In Hatred's Flame". I really am excited about reviewing this one folks as it's a band I can safely say is one of the most important bands to come out of the 21st Century and one of the bands that are still to this day bringing it as hard as they were when they commenced.
"For the Horde":
From the start we already have a very strong and fast groove which really kicks in well with strength and energy that show the traits of this mighty band's power; the beat of this song shows us some of the bands older tones mixed with some really incredible riffs to make this a song you can literally lose your mind to as well as crush it in the pit. The track is a fresh return from a band that has been able to inspire a generation of fans with their mixture of intense Thrash and crushing Death mixture to where we have seen many bands take inspiration from, and lead by example from a band that has continued to bring it hard and even now harder than ever. One of the things that shows this is the fact that this track holds up to the bands mighty legacy while at the same time continuing to go further with both their sound and their style. With how this track is laid out it is obvious to see that EXMORTUS have created a track that is mixed perfectly bringing out the best of both Jadran "Conan" Gonzalez and David Rivera in terms to their incredible guitar playing and a voice that shows no mercy.
"As Above, So Below (Yngwie Malmsteem cover)"
For the bands cover we see the EXMORTUS take to the catalogue of legendary shredder Yngwie Malmsteen. Honestly there are not many people out there that can give justice to a song of this magnitude but when given a challenge we see EXMORTUS take it head on and in fact not only giving this track the justice it deserves but in fact taking it as their own and creating something with a new dimension of heaviness. There are not many bands that have the skill or the inspiration to do what EXMORTUS have done as they have in fact kept the extremity at its highest while at the same time keeping the song true to how it was meant to be heard.
To conclude... This single is truly something else; it gives us a taste of what's to come while also show casing some of the bands skills in other musical ventures, it is easy to say that whatever the future holds for these titans of extremity it will be something for the books.
