EXITUS is a Finnish band that existed for one year between 1989 and 1990, and has only one demo release entitled "Statutum Hominibus Mori". One year, has not prevented Santtu Laakso and his friends to leave a mark in history with a small opening of Doom / Death Metal. And thanks to Svart Records, the label that has re-released this demo from under the dust.
Released as a seven tracks with a very basic CD cover, this demo is perhaps one of the first works in the world of Doom / Death before the appearance of bands like MY DYING BRIDE or PARADISE LOST. The total of the songs are audible, although it was not destine to distribution.
What characterize the Doom Metal are its heavy tempos, this is what I found in all the songs. Of repetitive and brutal riffs, a feeling made me think of CELTIC FROST, I do not know why, maybe it is the voice of the singer who made this effect. And I must say that all the songs are very stiff and cold, but spiced with some harmonies such as the track "Reprobate" or the last "Thanatos". Sometimes I got some blasts beats to ignite the atmosphere in the manner of old Thrash Metal. The middle of this demo was marked by a completely instrumental track and sound very simple but well made enough to send a sentimental and very intense.
Svart Records guys had this courageous idea to reborn this demo and to discover the largest public possible and it was an interesting discovery for me.
