Exhumer - Degraded By Sepsis album cover

Five years after their debut album, "Bloodcurdling Tool of Digestion", EXHUMER strike back again. The band from Italy is following the footsteps of giants of the Brutal Death Metal scene, such as SUFFOCATION, CRYPTOPSY and early DEVOURMENT. And to all that brutality, EXHUMER add some more flavor, unleashing their grindcore selves in order to annihilate everything in their path completely.

The band moves in a faster-than-light speed. The drums are constantly blasting like there is no tomorrow, while the work on both the guitars and the bass is truly on a very high level, technically speaking. For instance on tracks such as "Effervescence of Corroded Coarse Remains" with its completely in your face attitude, becomes almost instantly one of the highlights of "Degraded By Sepsis". The full extent of the band's extremity can be found in other instances, in "Vapours of Cadaveric Mucilage" which unveils the full extent of EXHUMER's ferocity, and also in the closing track of the album, "Putrescine", where the band is unleashing an all out assault on the ears, even though that the band is offering a few groovier moments.

And that is the second point where EXHUMER's music is actually strong. The band's ability to craft a groove is offering some variety on this release. The cool groove of "Pungent Aroma of Uterine Necrosis" and in some moments of "Putrescine" gives the band the opportunity to make that extra impact. In other instances of course, the groove might be used in a more destructive and at the same time majestic manner. This is the case with the slower parts of "Foaming Secretions", giving a devastating end result to the music.

And now we come to probably the strongest part of EXHUMER's voice. That is of course the band's insanity. The paranoid leads of "Enzimas Podridas" show in full extent the band's deranged nature, while in other instances they throw you off completely, as is the case with "Adipocere Corporal Glue" and its sharp leads. And if lunacy was not enough for you in the songs themselves, there is still plenty to go around in the intros and interludes. "Admire Your Entry" introduces the menacing outlook of EXHUMER in the most sickening way conceivable, while "Scent of Decomposition" sees the band experimenting with some very interesting effects. On the other hand "Misery" surprises you quite a bit with its use of keyboards that the EXHUMER are using in order to build a horrifying and unfriendly ambiance.

And if all that was not enough, the title track comes in and shows what EXHUMER are able to do when they reach their full potential. The only track of the album that lasts for more than three minutes is an absolute tornado of violence. The track somehow manages to remain explosive and sickening at the same time, with its great groove and paranoid guitar leads while the band giving it their all to create fucking impressive moment.

"Degraded by Sepsis" shows that EXHUMER are following the right path. Even though the album is not perfect, you can see that the band has potential and since this is just their second full-length and they already sound really good, next one will probably be a killer.
