Excalion were formed by keyboardist Jarmo Jappe Myllyvirta in Konnevesi, Finland in December 2000. For that purpose, drummer Henri Pirkkalainen, bassist Timo Sahlberg and guitarist Tero Vaaja gathered up in a tiny rehearsal room. The musical style is Melodic Power Metal that mixes heaviness and symphonic elements with a lot of will.
The songs on Promo 2004 are quite good. The guitaristic ideas and the keyboards are very nice. All the members of the band know how to do their party very well and the singer has a very good voice. I'd probably say that their music is close to that of Stratovarious and  Labyrinth.
Right now they are in the studio and they're recording their debut album named Primal Exhile. It will be released after March 2005. Promo 2004 is a very good promo and its only problem is the production that does not help a lot. I hope that the production of the album will be much better.
Excalion is another good band from Finland which seems to be continuously producing new, good bands. I wish the best for them and I will be glad to listen to their first album.
