Ride to Hell (Reissue)
Evil
To research and rescue old recordings from the past is always a wonderful work, and there are precious gems that are lost in the sands of time. But once in a while, they are rediscovered and someone does to the fans a favor and reissues such work. And Mighty Music deserves praises for recovering old EVIL's material, and "Ride to Hell" is one of them. This is a compilation of material in reality. The first three songs come from their 1983 classic Demo Tape, and the others are live shows taken from a show that happened back Grøndal Bio February 2nd 1985, in Copenhagen (that were presented on a live video that was released officially, buy with a very limited number of copies). And some songs here just came to the light of the day on this release, and the listener will have in hands that old and good mix between traditional Heavy Metal and Hard Rock, but in a way that is filled with energy.
Marco Angioni at Angioni Studios finalized the audio for this release, and so the fans will have in hands something that sounds as it was in the past, only with the care of making things clear and defined for anyone to understand. It's a very good work, indeed. "Evil" and "Son of a Bitch" were re-record and released on "Evil's Message", but here presented on cruder versions; and "Ride to Hell" is an unreleased song, sounding great with the trademark sound of the quartet: melodies and aggressiveness balanced in a great form. And "Control Yourself", "Always Be Behind" (an amazing energy comes from this one, with very good guitars and vocals), "Loser" (a heavier songs with not so fast tempos), "Kill Your Woman in Bed" and "Where You Belong", as written above are present on a live video, but never on an album as they're now. And by what is heard, the quartet was really amazing alive, and the vocals fit perfectly on the band's music.
"Ride to Hell" is really a valuable item, and its being released on CD and vinyl formats, but you must be quick: the number of copies is limited. And this compilation shows that EVIL could be great with a better support in those days.
