Blessed are the musicians and bands who dare to start their journey with a full-length, this becomes even more exquisite when you are faced with something so powerful that energizes you in the first ten seconds of listening, we are talking about the brave Spaniards of the EVIL HUNTER and their eponymous album released by Fighter Records on April 10, 2018. Considering the boring person who writes to you at this time and all my criteria I must obligatorily feel satisfied to say that tightening the play to this job automatically filled me with the urge to run to the track and shake fervently in the best hard / heavy style with taste and if the futuristic creature on the cover will make you imagine a more modern sound line as many bands have adopted in the last five years then I've already shot to say the answer is NO, quite the opposite, a clean sound, a robust production, but smelling of big names of the metal, I can say that reminds me a lot, from this new phase of ACCEPT to HELLOWEEN, from TNT in some points to some heavier and more robust aspects, a margin for SAXON too, no doubt the sound of these guys will transport you in many familiar lines and well accepted by the metallic public, no doubt a clear shot.
Without further ado we'll go to the album, and you can put this work to play calmly because it will be all the time you have before the explosive "Surf the Waves" make your blood boil, fast, fervent and addictive, but at what powerful moment are we in the metal...many excellent albums born but this one took my attention, with a rhythmic drummer, the powerful vocals of Damián and a complete show in the performance of the guitars, and the bass? Perfectly crazy, pulsing. I have commented a lot in recent times that many great bands have a certain difficulty to fit each item in the exact place, fact that causes a certain disinterest to the listener in some moments, well ... this is not the case here! Everything is exactly where it should be and you can be absolutely sure of it in the title track "Evil Hunter", and ranging from a corpulent heavy metal of the 80's and a more youthful Speed line the band delivers a dynamic sound worthy of any great festival stage. The same is repeated in "Heartbeat" but with an observation at this point, a very interesting detail is that each track has unique characteristics from one to the other, which brings an album that will hardly leave the listener bored. "Hot Leather" begins with a line very close to the massive Hard Rock flirting with the Heavy Metal in a refreshing way, what year are we really? Once again I am forced to say that we are going back in time, many bands have performed an excellent job retaking aspects that were being lost after the 80s.
Although we are talking about a new band all the members have an excellent load in the back, the best known name in the band for me was the early involvement of guitarist José Rubio in the band TROLOGY, later TRILOGY 666, and other members played in more albums recent events from NIGHTFEAR. Powerful vocalist Damián Chicano has an almost metallic tone that fits well with the melodic style of the Heavy Metal of the EVIL HUNTER. The classic power metal influenced the vocal arrangements, standing out a bit more than the melodic rock ballads and I really like it, but 'Evil Hunter' also brings a very interesting guitar work and that is enough to keep this openly traditional metal album at full throttle. I hope that this live band is as potent as it is in the studio, it really made me curious. The album is excellent for "Hold Me Tight" and the fast "Go", and at this time many will hate me but I'm happy to say we have a ballad in this work, I know, I usually talk so much about Death and Black bands Metal that's up unexpectedly read a comment "Fluffy" about a Hard / Heavy ballad in full 2018, I know, and it's not for being female but I've really felt a lack of a little more emotion inside the metal lately, happy to say that I loved the mix of AOR in "By Your Side", an interesting differential with a taste of sadness when we approach the last track "Open Up Your Eyes" and we return to a more energetic line, the riffs are very sumptuous and I love how the soil is laid out with the rest of the throbbing instruments in the background, exceptional!
As I mentioned earlier we have many good albums currently with few tracks which is not bad at all but it leaves a feeling of want more and I'm really looking forward to seeing what these guys will do in the future. I can only conclude this analysis by fervently recommending this album to everyone who likes the Old School Hard / Heavy line because if many thought it was dead then they were wrong.
