Evil Force - Ancient Spores album cover

With a name like EVIL FORCE it's easy to see what's going to come across in this album, yes you're right, old school Thrash Metal. But the band calls their music Speed Metal, a term I'm often skeptical to use it as I don't see much difference between both the genres. Anyways after quite a number of splits and demos these Paraguay Thrashers released their debut full length "Ancient Spores" last October 24th. So, the question is if this is a hit or a miss band.

With an atmospheric tempo building opening song with the title track "Ancient Spores", the band impresses with the first song as the fast paced riffs are quite different from the usual Thrash Metal style and are slightly much faster and vocals of Steel Force are of high pitched screaming nature, working perfectly with the overall music. Each song has an anthemic feel to it sprinkled with juicy solos and fantastic bass and drums work. It's the kind of music that you never get bored of if you are into the old school Traditional style of Metal. Its nearly 6th time that I have been listening to the album as I write this, and it doesn't really age unlike most modern albums. "Speed Metal Evil" is a true Speed Metal anthem in itself and is sure to inspire future Speed Metal musicians to embrace this genre. It's the kind of music that gets you headbanging instantly and air guitar-ing in not time. "Burning Steel" shows that the album is not unidirectional and has enough variety to keep the listener interested, as the guitarists Marcelo Nightlord and Renato Torres play some juicy slow solos to build the tempo, almost flirting with folk-ish guitar work. The guitar work in the instrumental "The Rise Of Enki" is impeccable as the boys blast some nostalgic timeless riffs between 1:12 to 3:53 before taking the listener into another riff-ology filled with solos and later some acoustic work, Oh boy!, surprise at every stage, though with the song prorogating until 8:45 min, the song does test the listener's patience a bit. The album ends with another hard hitting anthem in "Headbanger Force".

With true 80s touch in every song, EVIL FORCE has done nearly everything right to please the old school connoisseurs, and though they have taken quite a long time to get their first full length, this surely was worth the time, and hope they continue to bring out new material more frequently and the boys have surely succeeded in putting Paraguay in the Thrash and Speed Metal map.
