Eternal Flight - D.R.E.A.M.S. album cover

It has been almost a decade since his leaving of the Power Metal venture of DREAM CHILD. I gather that it was a wise choice for the French artist, Gerard Fois. His forming of ETERNAL FLIGHT, a Progressive Heavy / Power Metal act, turned out to be as a wonderful substitution for his earlier endeavor. That same experience was enhanced even more with the band's third release. "D.R.E.A.M.S" or in length "Diminished Realities, Elegies And Mysteries". Talk about a complex name that looks like an unsolved riddle.

The first feature that screams loudly out of this release is diversity. Just as any other Progressive Metal band, ETERNAL FLIGHT didn't rest itself on only a single niche. Both Progressive and traditional Metal fans will be able to make their way through this album without too many hardships as it doesn't have too many stop signs a part from singular areas.

The rhythm section is quite interesting as it shared sorts of riffages that exemplified a mutual sagacity towards modern and old school Metal music. As well as the riffages, the vocals of Fois has a lot to offer, from high pitched build ups to mid raspy tones. The guy's voice is amazing. Therefore, I concluded that Metalheads that dig BALANCE OF POWER, JAG PANZER, NEVERMORE, SYMPHONY X, DREAM THEATER and early KAMELOT, will find themselves without much troubles right at home.

What I mostly liked about ETERNAL FLIGHT is the fact that they had a few rather easy straightforward tunes, and rougher sections within the lengthier tracks that helped on maintaining the focus. Not that their articulate tracks were of the LIQUID TEMPTATION kind but a little source of simplicity never hurt once in a while. Furthermore, this album has more than just a presentation of musical expertise. The utterly mysterious themes were of the grandiose kind and it was hard for me to distinguish if the entire tracklist was a joined concept or not. Not that it bothered me that much but it was nice to know due to the interesting lyrics. Sadly that as same as the music, the production of this release didn't shape up to be in the highest of qualities, nonetheless every channel in the mix was noticeable.

Some of the albums strong points were on "Nightmare King", "The Tower", "The Meeting" and "Goodbye". Also it is hard to forget the tribute for DIO with the great performance of "Night People". Along with the enticing guest performances of guitarists as Chris Caffery and Mark McGee, these tracks showed the amazing side of Progressive Metal where the music can both challenge and still be fluent and catchy. I recommend this album for everyone for its mysterious themes, well performed and written music and great vibes. Even though it didn't begin with a blast, its larger part was something else. Get acquainted with these guys.
