Eosphoros - Eosphoros album cover

"The past is dead, long live the past" seems to be a king of thought that many bears in mind. It seems that everyone is trying to take back what time has claimed years ago. It's a lost feeling that the older ones bear sometimes. But even many Metal bands have to deal with, as it's the case of the North American trio EOSPHOROS, that comes with its first album, "Eosphoros". They play an old form of Black Metal, near what was done in the beginning of the 90s, as we usually hear on bands from the SWOBM from Norway, Greece, Sweden and England. There's no problem with that, for the trio shows a very good musical personality, using a raw energy to build the songs, evading a deeper technical insight, what is good. It's nothing that we didn't heard before, but this formula always shows good results if it's used by guys with guts and personality (what this trio really has).

We can say that JG (the band's vocalist/guitarist, and the one who made the recording and mixing of the album) and VK (who worked on the mastering) tried to catch the same feeling from the 90's, to bring back something from "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" back from the crypts, to sound crude and darkened. They did a good job, in a way the sound quality fits on the band's musical work, besides a (just a bit) cleaner sound would have done miracles. It's not bad, it's good, but could be better. On their songs, we can say that the spirit of the SWOBM is here. There are six songs on "Eosphoros", all of them showing a promising name into US Black Metal scene. The brutal fire furnace called "Promethean Fire" with its rich tempo changes and simple (but excellent) guitars, the sharp and raw aggressiveness of "Dross", the slow, putrid and introspective feeling that exhale from "Trance of Annihilation" (very good vocals, along a funereal atmosphere created by guitars), and the long and really darkened "Sylvan Apotheosis" (more than 10 minutes of duration, with fine arrangements on the musical instruments). But all of them are fine pieces of Black Metal arts, so hear them all!

For the next time, I hope that EOSPHOROS can come with a better sound quality (but not take out their aggressiveness), because they are too good to stay this way. So let these Dark Wolves of Black Metal hunt!
