Tome 1: Ultima Pangea
Eons Of Decay

The ways to deal with a particular Metal genre are endless, and it’s just a choice for many musicians to express their musical ideas. Then when hearing to a band’s music, forget the genre’s name and just pay attention, and maybe you’ll find something you were looking for. That’s the best way to deal with “Tome 1: Ultima Pangea”, the first release of the French quartet EONS OF DECAY, because the unexpected is expected from them. In reality, the band is a project, with “Ultima Pangea” (let’s short the title, please) being the first part of a trilogy in a multi-media project with a story in the form of short stories and videos.
Here, focusing on the musical aspect, one can feel that this Black/Death Metal band shows strong pulses of Avant-Gard influences and very good technical approach, with an ample set of influences permeating all the songs. It’s aggressive and nasty, full of energy and personality, but adorned with very good arrangements and melodic sense. The production worked in a form to conceive the right sound quality for the band’s music: aggressive, sharp, defined and truly understandable to have no doubts about what the quartet intends to express with its music. It’s clear that the tunes of the drums (that are programmed) can be better next time, but the final result is truly excellent.
The concept created by the band fits on its musical work, and the intensity and valuable expressions shown on “Prologue” (just an intro), “Digital Agora” (very good clean vocals), “Preach My Truth” (brutal and oppressive parts, with a good technical outfit on bass guitar and drums), “Ultima Pangea”, “The Perfect Storm” (very good Death/Thrash Metal guitar riffs and arrangements), “Exodus of Ashes”, “Organic Fert” (very good growls, indeed), “Beyond”, “My Choices Your Way” (wow, what great oppressive ambiences), “Humming” and “Aeon Cycles” will surely conquer all of those who hears to this release. The combination of extreme Metal elements with melodic touches and Avant-Garde elements has a lot to offer to the fans.
Be welcome, EONS OF DECAY, and after listening to “Ultima Pangea”, we are anxiously waiting for the second part of the trilogy!
