Eugenic Wombs
Enthrallment
Continuing a line of brutality that was never surpassed, I guess it is more of a fortune than the opposite. Hailing from Eastern Europe, ripped from the womb at times of near chaos and discord, slowly bred into an unforgiving environment, the monstrosity that is ENTHRALLMENT took shape. Rather veteran, being bred in the late 90s, the Bulgarian Brutal Death Metal creatures, have been able to master their abilities in the gruesome arts of pure Death Metal, enabling them to keep a long term interest in their works, spread over several albums, EPs and splits. "Eugenic Wombs", recently released via the underground Rebirth the Metal Productions label, comes in as one of their ruthless of spawns.
At first, when I started listening to "Eugenic Wombs", it rapidly crossed my mind that I was listening to a distorted hybrid of SINISTER meets CANNIBAL CORPSE, a kind of fast paced distribution, entangled by technical means to enhance the brutality of the atmosphere heaving from above. Classic acts such as the early 90s atrocities as HOWITZER and SEVERE TORTURE may also come in handy as a reference, but ENTHRALLMENT chose to take a slight break away from the traditional grounds of the extreme sub-genre and into their own malevolent world.
The songwriting featured may spread signs of straightforward madness, yet I trust that slowly one would recognize that the band is fracturing the known patterns. It can sound repetitive, and it is possible to notice on several songs there isn't too much constructiveness. Furthermore, and that can be noticed quite prematurely to the end of the release, the technical Death Metal abbreviations issued within the songs are not that overly unique, needless to say something straight out of the hat. Better said, the band can tire here and there, such as on "Last Judgment Waltz", "Totally Dismembered" and "Path To Silence". Not a major minus, but on the same breath not that appealing to come back to.
To their benefit, ENTHRALLMENT are performing with fine technical finesse. Tunes such as "Few Are Those Who Find It", "Enslaved By Your Own Seed" and "Deserved Fears" offer a different view of the band. Destroying with somewhat assorted riffery that is decisive and sends out hints of a genuine sense while also illustrating lead guitar abilities that are well deserved. There is a twisted form within ENTHRALLMENT and it screams out both tradition and the will to progress. Brutal as it can get, tough as a nut then again might take a while to get into.
