Enter 6 - Black Dolphin album cover

From the cringey album artwork to the... also cringey song titles, one wouldn't expect much from the first ENTER 6 album since 2000. And you wouldn't be wrong if you thought that. It seems that after 19 years, ENTER 6 still have yet to figure out the phenomenon of writing a good song. While there are riffs and themes on this album that are great, there is never one song that fully demonstrates that this band can effectively put riffs together to create a good Thrash Metal song. Speaking of putting riffs together, that's usually all these songs are. There is hardly any repetition, only progression. This isn't a bad thing, but ENTER 6 doesn't pull it off very well.

Take "The Bitter End" for example. The end of this song is this really cool riff sequence that is completely butchered because they didn't carry it out at all. They play the sequence once in the entire song, and it's right at the end. "All for Nothing" features some cool lyrical structures in the middle of the song that are completely ruined by the guitarist's signature (not really) chug. There is also a great opportunity for a heavy breakdown that never occurs. Another thing that they need to work on is execution. Right when the chug riffs come in on "My Withered Hands" it seems like the guitarist is having an extremely difficult time playing simple riffs. It's sloppy and the high notes he plays sound pathetic. Poor execution can also be found on "Precious" and "The Bitter End".

I'm not going to go into every wrong turn this band took in the writing of this album, because I really don't have time for that. Despite all of the many flaws, there are some things that I enjoyed. First of all, not all of the riffs were bad. I really like the use of chords that the guitarist employs in "Precious," "Those Like Me," and "Director". It creates a smidge of atmosphere and, at times, dissonance. This differentiation is much needed. Other than the guitar, the drums were good as well, creating nice grooves even when the guitar failed to do so.

This album is PANTERA-inspired thrash/groove metal along the lines of FAUSTUS, but without the awesome vocals. Ignoring the fact that these song titles sound like they were copy pasted from a GODSMACK album and that the album artwork and band logo are just abominations of graphic design, this album is still pretty messy. At least there's potential.
