I recently read something said about a movie called Wyrmwood. The reviewer said something along the lines of "it's the most original genre film in a very long time." For those who are wondering, the movie is a zombie thriller with heavy Mad Max influence. Listening to the latest ENCOFFINATION album, "We Proclaim Your Death O' Lord", it made me think about what that reviewer said, and I applied it to the creation of this review. Long story short, this Doom/Death Metal album is nothing shy of exactly what one might expect.

In other words, this album is no Wyrmwood; I'd call it more of a Night of the Living Dead because it's not original, but if you're a fan of the genre, you'll love it anyways. Starting with "Ebony Skulls", the Doom Metal riffing pummels the listener with sheer force and impeccable execution. The songwriting is good to the point where the unoriginality does not stand out enough to deter the listener.

The album is seven tracks in length, and each track is lengthy enough to have crushingly slow Doom riffs but not so lengthy that one gets bored easily. In fact, despite the longer lengths on the tracks, the album goes by quite efficiently, proving that these guys know how to make music with flow good enough to maintain interest.

"Mysterium Fidei" helps with the album's flow by providing slow-paced riffs and atmospheres. This track and "A Monstrance of Human Bone" both serve as a break before the closing track, providing a place for the audience to take in what they heard and mellowing them for the final track.

While the music is not the most original, what is shown on "We Proclaim Your Death, O' Lord" is effective when it comes to entertaining a fan of the genre. The riffs are crushing and destructive while the songwriting and structure are both good enough to create a well-made album.
