Between Time

Ah, this demo really brought in mind the glorious days of Greek metal (call me 80's). It's a bit hard to describe with words these days to someone who hasn't witness that specific time period (not to mention someone outside Greece). I know many of you might consider those days as years with very mediocre crop - still there's always a beginning and none can blame the bands from those days, nor their work...
EMPRESS CROWN has already released two demo CD's: Eternal Journey in 2001 and Night Of The Storming Menace in 2003. I haven't heard them so I can't speak about comparisons. Their latest work called Between Time includes two songs that can be classified as a really raw mixture of 80's metal and a dash of thrash (the way VENOM pin-pointed the genre sonically). This is a really home made work with lots of flaws, the two most irritating of them is the production and the vocals. I understand that the band is not from a huge city in Greece (thus they don't have the luxuries of these bands) but it is proven countless times so far that bands can deliver the goods even under very difficult circumstances. So at least when it comes to production I strongly believe that EMPRESS CROWN can offer a much better work. As for the vocals its all up to their singer.
I can't really classify this as a bad work. But definitely EMPRESS CROWN needs a lot of hard work to offer something really interesting for the listener.
