Embryonic Devourment

Mixed and mastered by Colin Davis (VILE), this is the 3rd full length album from this Northern Californian 4 piece. Brutal Death or Death Grind as the label says is what they are but you know fuck all that labeling horseshit do you like it? EMBRYONIC DEVOURMENT like the old, David Icke, they are all Reptiles look at the Presidents eyes, theories...it seems. But that's cool...we all need our themes. Basically it's about manipulation of us by a higher source anyway isn't and that could be some alien type worm or some slimy political human worm, same thing I guess these days so it's all relevant.
Ok then, with ''Reptilian Agenda'', I hear you ask, and how do they deal with this subject matter? Without compromise. This is angry, brutal, technically adept and controlled chaos. Brutal and Grinding? Oh yes..! ''Fear of Reality Exceeds Fantasy'' was the band's first full album in 2008 and was received very well, the next full length, ''Vivid Interpretations Of The Void'' 2010 was also a welcomed addition to their growing catalog but it does make me wonder why 4 years until the next release? Finance, day jobs, none stop live schedule or just working on the inspiration for the next album? Well I hope it was the latter 2 and not the former which is more and more familiar for bands these days. These guys do sound like they were born playing listening to them, tight and clean and like it's natural.
The album opens with a cinematic overture and quickly tears into ''Challenging All Forms of Hope'', blistering, twisting and turning it drags you through a hedge backwards, with some great guitar work and frantic percussive delivery and leaves you with the feeling that all forms of hope have indeed just been well and truly challenged. ''Masonic Angeldust'' Yeah those bastards are up to it with their hidden agenda against us all, let's eat the fuckers, snort their dry bones as ''Masonic Angeldust''. Revenge for the Natives and why not! Short, intense and pure Death. ''Reptiliphiliac'' has those Alien reptiles coming for us and taking our juices and integrating into us. It's aggressive and a full assault on the senses, switching dynamic in the mid-section to give you a nice groove then back to an intense attack again with another fine guitar solo thrown in to let you feel there could be a harmonious outcome but oh no....they snatch you right back into the dark. ''Experimental Deformation'', in a place called Plum Island they take you to, well experiment on you and make you their own bwahahahahaha...does it work? Well, this is more mid paced and full of groove, its storytelling and it's menacing and sets the scene perfectly and by the end of this you'll be one of them, I am sure. After all, as they say, Christ was a Lizard too, so all good. ''Suffer The Seas Of Gore'' This is a great Death / Grind / Brutal Metal and a personal favorite on this album, every element you like about the style is present in degree and is executed with the usual ''EMBRYONIC DEVOURMENT' style.
''Sealed With Resin'' was a title I loved, fuck the song... lol but then I listened. Opening with Tribal wailing and an ominous sound of something about to happen, you quickly feel the panic as the embalmers are about to extract your inside to fill you with resin and send you to the next world as a mummified ex. But at least you have all your cool stuff to take with you. The next track, ''Whilst The Rich Dine'' deals with the possibility we are all being brainwashed into playing digital games as a way of training silent warriors to be selected by this reptile technology. Great track, cool riffage and groove and again some great guitar work. And finally, ''Bloodgift'' to close. Another cinematic feel to open the track, are they coming or going now those damn reptiles? I don't know but Sacrifice is the all, you can't trust these fuckers that is for sure. This track feels just layered in shape changes, twisting riffs, alternate patterns and is a virtual assault on your ears and mind, now that's got to be a good thing! By the end of this album I went straight out looking for lizards man I swear, you will too. All in all, ''EMBYONIC DEVOURMENT'' have delivered in true form, if the Death style is what you like, then you won't go far wrong with ''Reptilian Agenda''.
If you are looking for a greater meaning, then maybe don't think too hard, just sit back and let this pound you for a while, you'll feel better I promise.
