Humananke
Embrace Of Disharmony

Coming all the way from Rome, this relatively new group takes a difficult path with this ambitious method, crafted in combining many sort of heteroclite and extravagant parameters set in an obviously creative shuffle reinforced under a strong mythologic thematic .
This album titled "Humananke" is a tough one to analyse. The music style displayed is truly exigent and utterly demanding, definitely not ''easy listening" or predictable. In fact the Bombastic Darkened Symphonic / Neo-Classical Metal enhanced by numerous complex and extreme elements, is clearly unique and damn original. This Italian band qualify themselves as being Progressive Avant-Garde and I think they absolutely succeeded, at least to find the definition of their own sound!
The problem is that sometimes you feel, as if you were lost in the maze of their labyrinthine structures, like if the ideas weren't perfectly expanded just only exposed in a real artistic maelstrom. It is almost as if their manic necessity of bringing loads of Epic orchestrations, violent dramatic aura, unexpected intercourse of ghostly textures, many arrangement's complications took precedence over the quality of songwriting and we can feel a few stuck in this hermetic feeling!
The musical vision is obviously set at the very far edge of sophisticated atmospheric Progressive Metal and "Humananke" is a work of love that deserves to be praised and respected. The playing skills are in the highest range. The many vocal approaches are an acquired taste. Almost each and every type of Modern Metal singing is used, from hybrid male/female inventive opposition, from diabolic shrieks to deep growls, from strong operatic to plaintive whispers. Despite everything, I think the vocalists are the weak point in their musical arsenal, particulary prominent in "Dirge on a Soul Staring at the Stars". Even the guest singer such as Kobi Fahri from ORPHANED LAND isn't totally convincing in the best track "The Edge Of Nowhere", also featuring a superb bass solo spot performed by SYMPHONY X's Mike LePond (AFFECTOR / LALU / ex SEVEN WITCHES)!
A mixbag of sensations, I'm quite impressed by the power, the talent and the ingenious epic surge.Bbut in the same move, very disappointed by the missing melodic target and most of all, the inaptitude of EMBRACE OF DISHARMONY to impose their fantasy ideal, based on nightmarish sonic paradigm and transforming it into an effective formula, sterilized and dispersed in their own harmonic complicated schema ("Shards Of Apocalypse")!
The emphasis on the orchestral side is considerable. Indeed the score seems to be a primordial ingredient, the samples are quite decent and the mixing between the intriguing moods. The coherency on the Metal instrumentations and the Symphonic strings are in perfect osmose, but I feel that most of the time, the technical prowesses seems to overshadow the necessary yet essential, emotional status of the music!
I believe that there is a lot of room to improvement, both in the focus and in the performances. They need to refine their goal. I'm pretty sure the next album will be matured in the right direction if they find a smart way to canalize their weird experimentations. I predict a strong release in a short future. This is a prophetic statement provided by the Metal-Temple's oracle!
