Electron is a nu/metalcore band hailing from the UK. Electron's versatile sound is a blend of riff-dense metal and dark, grungy melodies fused with a modern metal twist; their new EP "Hollow" puts all their influences on display with some electronic flare to grab the listener's attention. "Hollow" keeps the energy of metalcore alive while aiming to stand out from the pack. Electron puts their best foot forward for uniqueness while weaving in the elements of groups like Korn and the giants of nu-metal and metalcore. "Hollow" opens up with the track "Burning Inside." This EP reminds me a lot of 90s nu-metal with strong elements of metalcore.

The title track, "Hollow," begins with an electronic riff that's reminiscent of classic video games before immediately jumping into a rhythm that sends the listener on an Alt-metal trip that they haven't been on since high school. Jason's more modern guitar tone is a throwback to the very first time I listened to Evanescence. Nuno's drumming and Joanna's tight bass playing round out the rhythm on this track, making an appropriate backdrop for Jason's vocals to stick out in the mix. "Hollow" is followed by the very Korn inspired track "Loathe." which definitely also puts Electron's metalcore sound on display with vocals that remind me of the metal scene in the 2010s and tends to get lost among the rest of the tracks on the EP.

"Tame" feels a lot like a dance track that wants to go metal, but feels quite tame in comparison to "Hollow" and "Burning Inside" and is driven by its electronic elements resulting in a song that feels less soulful and alive than other tracks on this EP.  "Hollow" concludes with the seemingly Drowning Pool inspired track "The Unbound" which opens up with Jason's short whispered passage before diving into Jason's vocals and the chugging rhythm which reminds me heavily of Drowning Pool's track Bodies giving me a throwback to my school days.

Overall "Hollow" is a decent release with solid musicianship and songwriting and some memorable moments like the title track "Hollow" and the opening track "Burning Inside." Looking at "Hollow" as a whole the release feels like an ode to modern metal and modern metal tropes that are utilized by a plethora of modern bands, making it less memorable overall. Despite "Hollow" feeling fairly safe and what many listener's might expect from this style of music there are still unique and charming elements for listener's to enjoy like Jason's vocals and the tightness of the band playing as one, cohesive unit.
