Gaia's Legacy

On the heels of making their first North American appearance (as part of ProgPower USA), the progressive leaning Italians have issued a concept album concerning the man-made effects on our planet, known as global warming. It's based on "An Inconvenient Truth", the film by former US Vice-President, Al Gore. Snippets of the movie, be it Gore himself or one of those interviewed in the movie, introduce each song, ala "Privilege Of Power"(RIOT), "Think This"(TOXIK) or "Art Of War"(SABATON).
Vocally, Hollerbears an uncanny resemblance to mid-to-late 80s Geddy Lee(RUSH), particularly on "Thinning Out" and the "Deviation" opener. Eleven anthems preaching at how mankind has screwed things up, gets a little heavy-handed about half way through (if not lyrically limiting). OK, I get the point. How about some suggestions for improvements, not just Man = Bad. Musically, it's not all whiny, keyboard dominated Progressive Metal, rather a nice dynamic mix of mellow and aggressive, often within the same song. The one exception being a piano laden "Thirst In Our Hands" .The disc closes with a faithful rendition of the FATES WARNING(prophetic moniker, given the subject matter throughout "Gaia's Legacy") lively hit, "Through Different Eyes".
