EDGE is an exciting new AOR / Melodic Rock band from Karlskoga, Sweden. Jonas Forss and Tobias Andersson (SHADOWLAND, SEVEN WISHES) threw the first rock, invited Torbjörn Brogren (HEADS OR TALES) and Olle Rodehn (SHADOWLAND) and the band was formed. Their debut album was called "Heaven Knows" was just recently released by Escape Music.
The opening song, "Little Girl", shows EDGE's great music, beginning with a perfect guitar solo & rhythm section that made them sound like EUROPE. Stunning melodies and catchy chorus with simplified lyrics "I don't wanna hurt you, I don't wanna break you, I just wanna see the smile on your face". Jonas Forss has gentle melodic voice & his English is quite clear and understandable, despite him being Swedish. I fell for these guys right from the start. The following "How Long" has one hell of a catchy moment when it comes to the chorus, sure a fine momentum to be noticed and memorised. "Die With Your Arms" harbours keyboards melodies in the vein of PRETTY MAIDS along with a nice performance by the great showcase of the rhythm section & keyboards and the fantastic guitar solo played by special guest veteran, Tommy Denander. Everyone who admires such the creations of H.E.A.T. or THE POODLES will like the song "Nowhere To Hide", which is characterised by an energetic tempo and melodies. "Get Over it" is more of an emotional, ballad oriented, song with a moving & high end chorus. Martina Edoff serves as the special guest on lead vocals duet with the singer Jonas Forss. On "Believe In Love" the keyboards gave me a hint of 80s Tina Turner songs, probably common for 80s Pop. Yet, this one presented a modern Hard Rock feel similarly to SUNRISE AVENUE in band's performance. Throughout the record, EDGE provide a distinct melodic songs with great guitar riffs playing by Tobias Andersson and pretty well active rhythmic section consisting of bassist Torbjorn Brogren and drums playing by Olle Rodehn. "I Could Never Live" caught my attention with "I could never live without you by my side, a fragment of the lyrics, a part of the memorable chorus of the song "I Could Never Live". Aren't these lyrics appealing? As for the music, the energetic & fresh melody of this song provide a hot mix of BON JOVI, SUNRISE AVENUE & H.E.A.T.
"Right Now" is a powerful track characterised by haunting, catchy chorus. There is that fine finishing of the AOR keyboards style. Again another expected melodic chorus in the vein of classic AOR and highly accessible lyrics on "To Hell And Back". "Through That Door" again follows the same melodic pattern of the others, with the same type of chorus, yet still worthy to mention as a great listener with a touch of EUROPE, especially with the bass lines. "The End Of The World" has an unforgettable melodic refrain singing and a brilliant guitar solo that makes this song very nice, "Is this the end of the world?". You can just feel the true inspiration of 80s & 90s of the AOR elegance.
Summing up, EDGE is a promising band. I found their album to be melodic Hard Rock, both vintage and modern, fine guitars, impressive solos, nice rhythm section, excellent keyboards and melodious & clean vocal. EDGE seems to be driven by forces such as WHITESNAKE but also AOR features of EUROPE. EDGE are pleasant for soul and created a fine flow of music with a big heart. If you are a true fan of melodic Rock and AOR sthis is definitely the album for you. I can't wait for additional fresh material from EDGE. I'm sure I will hear about them more than once... This is only the beginning.
