EDENBRIDGE carries on shining rather bright in the overdosed 'female-fronted metal' typhoon striking hard the last years. I do not know if sales are remarkable for the band's albums, but - as their newest MyEarthDream also declares - this quintet seem to focus rather neatly on their mere work; delivering notable symphonic/goth/prog Metal in total loyalty and trust; and both these last two terms are genre-free.
The sixth album of this Austrian outfit flirts again with what the average 'ethereal Metal' listener would expect. Sabine sings convincing; she's eerie, she's delicate, she's painstaking and - most of all - she's actually singing poetry (in notes). She contradicts rather in-style with the rest of the members' on-the-edge sharp playing, resulting in a 'romantic' blend differentiating from the usual NIGHTWISH/Tarja patterns. Enough of 'Eastern' leads enrich the in-any-way in-your-face riffing, while the bass/drums lessons consist of simple attitude in pure scope.
The keys 'dressing' Sabine's voice are dominant at times, while they're 'marked' with the EDENBRIDGE specific sound; goth romance in league with symphonic/pomp vibes, upshoting what the 'celestial' word refers to. There are tons of melodies, tons really...Of course, for non-die-hard fans of this sound the album may sound boring if listened to all at once. But, the objective is to raise the quartet's potential to be 'in the mood' at maximum level for what they're proposing; and I think they fit the deal.
I do not know if EDENBRIDGE will ever flirt with ultimate success; they're developing a certain kind of style (from a certain point of time and onwards) that has given them enough recognition by now, but nothing groundbreaking. I don't know if they want something like this, anyway. Still, what they do they do it well. Generic fans of NIGHTWISH and WITHIN TEMPTATION (or even 'hardened' EVANESCENCE) and devotees of the 'cinematic' music-wise scope of bands like RHAPSODY (to give you a brief idea), do not lose the chance...again. MyEarthDream is a really good release.
