"Yūrei" is the debut album from the one-man project, ECLIPSUS. The sole member is COUGHIN WRAUGHT, whose brainchild is an intensely dark and desperate journey following the steps of an individual and their impending suicide in the Aokigahara Forest of Japan.
"Desperate, Aokigahara" starts the album off and quickly establishes the ambiance that can be expected for the duration. Intense and depressing with a deep yet straightforward guitar intro, the song offers many desperate screams that fans of the genre will undoubtedly appreciate.
The gothic-style dirge, "Mourning, Aokigahara," offers up full-scale black metal instrumentation until a break of climactic silence. Each track has its own style of funeral-inducing darkness and sorrowful romanticism. There's an emotion that's not only raw but unbridled.
Exploring darker concepts such as depression and suicide is something many can relate to, and ECLIPSES welcomes the masses with open arms. The subject matter is depicted well, and the atmosphere of chaotic thoughts, feelings, and desperate actions is conveyed perfectly. This is an extraordinarily dark and hopeless album and one many will connect with.
