Easy Trigger - Ways of Perseverance album cover

Verona, Italy, based Rock band, EASY TRIGGER, began their musical journey in the year 2009 primarily as a Rock/Sleaze Rock cover outfit. The band went through a slew of line-up changes before settling on a five member outfit. The band played a host of gigs, changed lead vocalists and started on writing original compositions. The band released an EP in the year 2011 that was heavily influenced by 80's Rock music. They also performed at a few contests and won a bunch of awards for their performances. "Bullshit", their debut album, was released in the year 2012 and bass guitarist Vale joins the fold. The year 2014 saw more changes in personnel for the band with a brand new vocalist, guitarist and drummer joining their ranks. The band played their last show of the album in 2014 and concentrated on writing and rehearsing for their new album, "Ways of Perseverance". 2016 saw them introduce Nico as their new lead vocalist to their sophomore effort. The lead singer, along with the drummer, was instrumental in working on the lyrical content of the songs as well as the arrangement of the songs themselves.

"My Darkness" is the first track of the album, and right from the first riff, one can hear the band channeling their inner MOTLEY CRUE. The spoken word bit in the middle of the track seems completely out of place and this short track is a very worthy, speedy first track. "Land of Light" starts off with a short bass doodle and is joined by a simple melody before the riffs and the rest of the instruments join the party. This track sounds like a regulation rock song with a quiet passage in between meant for audience to clap along with. "The Watchmaker" has a riff in the beginning that is similar to the Melodic Rock melodies that IRON MAIDEN pioneered. Other than that and an intense lead guitar solo, this 2 minute track offers no excitement at all. "God is dead" is a heavier, song in the beginning and has a Metal edge to it, while the lead vocalist tries his hand at sounding like Rob Halford, but manages to sound like Ripper Owens instead. Halfway through the song, the tempo escalates and a superlative lead guitar solo takes the song forward. "Blind" is the imperative ballad that was a staple of the records that Rock bands put out to boost record sales. Past the halfway mark, the song gallops at a healthy rate and is almost unrecognizable from the way it began. "Sold Out" is the penultimate song of the album and it has a Grunge/Alternative sound in the way it begins and groovy heavy riffs accompany the track. The band has decided to skip a lead solo for this track that reinforces their intention to make this a song steeped in the way bands approached their craft since the explosion of the Seattle sound of the 90's.

The band starts off the album with a Rock sound that would be something right out of the playbook of Axl Rose or Bach, although they change their direction as the album progresses and the songs get darker and begin to take on more of a Metal/Alternative vibe. The lead singer certainly has the chops to sing the high notes and is comfortable belting out Rock melodies equally well. The band is made up of a bunch of talented and gifted musicians and masters of their craft and it shows in the way the songs are constructed and executed. The lead guitar solos that pop in the tracks are excellent and serve the songs well. However, there is a niggling doubt in my mind whether the band is relevant in this day and age. This album is exceptional in terms of songwriting and execution but they sorely lack the X factor that will propel them to the next level. The music, as competent as it is, lacks a certain indelible characteristic to it. The bands that spawned this genre of music had a certain bad boy image that went with their unapologetic music. The good folks who procreated the genre are still very much around and this band will have to work ever the harder to be called worthy of their legacy.<
