Dark Path

Ah, the aspirations of newcomers. "Dark Path" is an amateur's decent release. It has those refining qualities of a band releasing their first full-length. Lo and behold my preconceptions were correct. I have a certain fondness to debut albums. None too awful but, not great either. There are many holes in this album and more often than not my fixated attention is often diverted unconsciously to something else. I like to think of this current EARTHLING as a group of prepubescent teens covering a blackened influenced AUTOPSY with a hint of 3 INCHES OF BLOOD. All the different ideas sound cool but not much later the novelty quickly fades and you're left dwelling in a fog on your own sighs. I don't mean the latter as an insult more like a stepping stone on the right track just tons and tons of work to be done.
Essentially, this is a Black / Thrash album. This is one of those albums you have running while you govern your daily errands. But, hey, at times I wouldn't mind pumping this at night sitting out in the backyard having a casual conversation. Every now and then, I noticed a slight indulgence of Sludge / Doom. Thanks to this leaning, the songs drag more than they should and you find yourself listening to filler and static structures building up that lead you to a dead end. On the contrary, the bass is very inconsistent causing you to raise an eyebrow and a large question mark appearing over your head. The bass, I'll admit, is quite catchy most of the time but, overall the flow is so disorientated that more harm than good is done. The guitars I had the most problems with. The main riffs are entertaining, very simplistic but capturing of all your senses. The oddities come into play when it comes to the rash knucklehead in the group. I don't know who it is but, their playing basically downgraded the album for about two levels. It's so out there it doesn't even make any sense to me. Just think of a young Trey Azagthoth (MORBID ANGEL) on a really bad acid trip.
In all honesty, this is a rather mediocre album but, interesting to listen to. Probably not a band you'll see me recommend but, I am curious to see how they'll fare in the future.
