Permanent Dawn
Earthburner
From the depths of the urban wasteland of Chicagoland in the heart of the aggressive Metal scene comes a group that blends Death and Grindcore together within a putrid display of vile distortion. Forming back in 2002 by the guitarist Jeremy Wagner from the infamous BROKEN HOPE. When there was downtime, Jeremy Wagner would be writing and formulating concepts for his side project. It wouldn't be until 2016 where the project that became known as EARTHBURNER would fully come to life with their first independent release of the EP “2012 3-Song EP”. With literally only three songs as the title says, this would start EARTHBURNER on their path. Having to sadly put things on hold due to previous commitments, the band would wait seven more years before releasing any new material.
With a few singles previously released in 2024 to tease you, EARTHBURNER is back with their debut full-length album “Permanent Dawn”. Released under M-Theory Audio on November 8, 2024 and promises a disgusting display of Deathgrind for 21:12 minutes with eleven intense tracks. So let us see what 20 years worth of preparation and hard work can deliver that comes from one of Death Metal's own prominent guitarists.
This album art has a lot going on to display a powerful Black and White image. With a delightful bastardization of the Virgin Mary displayed in a corrupted skeletal image. Showcasing a worship of money and war through greed and power. Instead of a sacred heart we see the nuclear symbol, a fitting touch. Warheads frame the twisted religious figure as images of war and corruption are displayed around the main central bastardized religious figure. Brilliantly done that teases you for what to expect. Considering most Grindcore is mostly political, you can tell these guys may hit it right on the money, at least with imagery.
The drums count in a heavy torrent of aggression as “Necrodisiac” kicks the album off like a shotgun blast. Heavy low tuned chord progressions drenched in distortion are coated in bestial vocals. The blast beats are a barrage that build the intensity of the opening track. “Like Dogs” has that disgusting Deathgrind we all love and wastes no time as it races by like an old school grind track.
“Uncreation” has all the right elements of a solid Death Metal track but with a Grindcore coating. Just a disgusting wave of distortion that rips through your senses. A solid undertone with a thick low tuned steady riff carries behind everything. “Cadaveric Coprophagia”, a couple tracks later, shows the same intense aggression but has some decent slam Death chord progressions that the track leads into near the middle point. A steady march of intense distortion as the caustic vocals build on the vile tonality.
“Permanent Dawn” has all the disgusting hallmarks of a solid Deathgrind album. A truly putrid toxic waste with all of the perfect chemical reactions that you could hope for. The raw distorted aggression that hits hard and fast like a shotgun blast yet heavy and putrid. This album is well constructed and even the production value is decent. I would recommend this album any day of the week. It’s about time we got a solid Deathgrind album. There are some mixing issues, but it fits with the Grindcore elements. EARTHBURNER killed it on this album and I am looking forward to more from them. Go get a copy and enjoy this vile disgusting album.
