EARTH ROT are a band based out of Perth, Western Australia, and they have been active for only a short period of time, since the year of 2013 to be precise. They have released materials such as "Dirt", which was their very first, debut EP in 2014, and not even a year later, their first full-length saw the light of day, and they named it "Follow the Black Smoke".
Two years later, in 2016, another EP was released, and they named it "Chthonian Virtues". Finally, a year later in March of 2017, their new full-length album "Renascentia" was released. It is an independent release that consists of ten tracks. The band themselves claim to be Death/Black Metal-oriented, so let's dive a bit into their new record and see what it has to offer.
"Terraform" is the first thing you will hear, and believe it or not, it's quite good. (More like, really good.) The atmosphere is incredibly dark, reminding you of the rawest possible Black Metal bands out there, but still the entire song structure is somewhat melodic, really atmospheric and pretty haunting. The growls remind you of the darkest possible Death Metal bands, making this band one of those that can combine the two awesomely. "The Ancient Fire" is once again more of a Black Metal-oriented song, with brutal and high screams, raw atmosphere and powerful guitar riffs. "Waves of the Blackest Mire" starts off slowly but nicely, with a dissonant and brutal riff that just keeps echoing, until the vocals are added to the mix, and these vocals belong in the category that will make you make an angry face whilst listening to them, because it just so happened to me too. Everything is brutal, dark, massive and crushing, definitely some top notch Australian Metal to check out!
