We aren't talking about a band that is newcomers to the Melodic Death Metal scene. Active since 2007, this Spain quintet DYSNOMIA has released a demo and another full-length over their 7 year history under the previous name DARK ETERNITY, prior to signing with Suspiria Records for this self-titled full length album under their new moniker. So expectations are high that upon pressing play that my ears will take in a professional sounding set of musicians well versed in the genre at hand.

The rhythms and tempos have a little bit of Symphonic/ Black Metal overtones - so do not place DYSNOMIA into the class of pure Gothenburg Melodic Death Metal - as compositions like "Behemoth", "Let the Spark Ignite", and "Into the Void of Your Eyes" have as much in common with classic DIMMU BORGIR as they do CHILDREN OF BODOM. Alex as a vocalist has this fierce raspy overtone that sends chills, be it rapid fire in the verses or slow and measured during a chorus - as "In New Form" works on both ends of the scale as the blistering blast triplets and speedy guitar trills coincide masterfully.

"Baptized in Rain" features some clean female siren melodies to differentiate itself, as well as some beautiful piano parts while the Blas/ Fernandez riff duo stack up the harmonies in such a united front you can't help but melt. At 10 songs and 37 minutes, this record whirls by rather quickly - further emphasizing the 'all killer/ little filler' mindset of DYSNOMIA.

I guess there is something special about the passion of Metal from Spain that brings happiness to my heart - because this record is unrelenting and straight up the gut, perfect for people who are looking for something a little more aggressive in this genre. I predict we will be hearing more from this five-piece through the years.<
