Never Enough

Their brand of Doom sinks deep inside the listener, and crushes their soul from the inside out. Play it front to back, and let it consume you.

From Bandcamp, “The sophomore album “Never Enough” is the culmination of all the pent-up rage and frustration of the past three years, and it marks a hard reboot of the DWAAL machinery. It’s angrier, hungrier, more ruthless and more personal than ever before.” The album has five songs. “All Masters, All Servants” is first. The opening tones are dissonant, depressive, and with rich gutturals. It waxes and wanes a few times, and the quieter passages are marked with eerie keyboards. “Pseudanthium Aionios” is even lower, and it grinds out like heavy footprints in the virgin show, leaving dirt and blood behind. The guitar chords are very dissonant, giving the song a hopeless sound.

“Leichenhalle” begins with smoother, but very somber tones. The clean guitars bring a heavy burden with them, that you don’t fully realize until it is too late. The main riff is even heavier. The mist clears approaching the half-way mark, and hope springs forth, if only for a few passing bars. Soon after, the heavy fog returns, clouding your vision down to zero. “Repentance of a Bastard” is a near-12-minute beast. The first several minutes are a draining beat down of your energy, and your soul. The mid-section is dialed back, giving the listener some time to recover. What follows through the end is a gut punch that is so hard, you stay on the ground.

“You Will Never Be Enough” closes the album. The opening tones are dreadfully depressing, and also full of anger, and the two lock hands and ride out their fate together. The sound gathers into pure hatred, and that’s how it ends. Overall, this was an excellent album. Their brand of Doom sinks deep inside the listener, and crushes his soul from the inside out. Play it front to back, and let it consume you.
