Emerging from Australia we welcome this quartet of Occult Doom Rock psychedelia, monolithic beast summoned that prolific night at the edge of Mt. Jerusalem in the hills of Mullumbimby. Featuring Dale Walker (drums,Ex MEGARITUAL, SON OF MAN) and Vin Steele (guitar,Ex MEGARITUAL, SON OF MAN, WOLFMOTHER), this cosmic hazy explosion of pure heaviness and loudness is emerging and will wipe us all from the surface of the earth.
Working together since 2015, they worked with producer Nat Collins to produce their first video, offered in early 2018 entitled 'Mind Crypt' has an lightly opened portal to let us perceive a little of their forthcoming album. To say the least it was worth the wait.Released on Ritual Productions (BONG,RAMESSES...),they now can look ahead and starting to acquire cult followers!Look at this covert art: A Monochrome Mushroom ...!Drug related or not? It's up to you to answer !
All starts up with the first note striking like an hammer or thunder hitting fragile earth and stones. Aasha's voice is haunting ,tragic ,and theatrical. Music is in the forefront. The vocals are a little in the background and kind of floating, like a spirit tempting to communicate. Even if its far more slower,Aasha's voice reminds me of CHRISTIAN DEATH, Gothic Rock, post punk, and I feel a punk influence. The drumming isn't dull at all: we have some great variations and Dale isn't shy of playing with speed when its necessary. The guitars are enchanting, sometimes ethereal, sometimes teasing with feedback.
The second track, "Release," has a great rhythmic and moving bass line. This one has powerful guitars in the choruses. The vocals are hypnotic and plays with your mind teamed up with psychedelic effects and great layers of sounds that makes this song profound...quite repetitive but in a good way...like they want us in a trance. I love it. Now we head for a "Reptile Hypnosis", sloooow is the word. Deep bass and guitar dictates us how to bang our head to our new leader. We are possessed. The guitars are chaotic, apocalyptic, and provoke visions of a nightmare. Escaping is not an option anymore, you are hooked and it's too late. You are a victim and DRUG CULT is guilty of this sin.
The next offering is reminiscent of some WINDHAND on speed."The Wall" isn't related at all to the PINK FLOYD song. "Mind crypt" is disturbing, narcotic psychotic, schizophrenic, insanity is near, boiling lava in the head . A huge load of stones attached to our feet making us prayin' for our sanity to not vanish while fighting waves of torment and avoiding drowning. INTOXICATING. This opus is must have for all Doom oriented fans. It is very hypnotic and original in its own fashion. Aasha's voice is giving an unique signature to the band's sound. An "against the entire world" singing style that's warning us and let us fear the worst. I'm charmed. Fans of JESS AND THE ANCIENT ONES, BLOOD CEREMONY, ELECTRIC WIZARD and WINDHAND will find a powerful curse in this music. Available soon this June 21st, go get it, you won't be dissapointed.
