What happens when a famous metal producer joins forces with four talented, metal-to-the-bone musicians? Well, in the case of Dream Evil the results are amazing, as here we have one of the best heavy/power metal CDs you are going to listen to this year.
The opening track Chasing the Dragon reminded me a little bit of Hammerfall, as the album proceeds however the band reveals a lot of virtues: Dream Evil play fresh, exciting, melodic power metal. Okay, this doesn't sound very original as the above mentioned genre is rather satiate, the Swedish band though cleverly avoids the trap of being another cliche, run-of-the-mill act. 
Apart from Fredrik Nordstrom (the famous producer I referred to earlier), the name that undoubtedly stands out is that of the amazing drummer Snowy Shaw. (I had seen him live when he was in King Diamond, the guy is unbelievable!). And of course we can't neglect the fantastic guitar work in the album (credits to the young and extremely talented Greek guitarist Gus G. - geia sou patrida!). As for the songs? They speak for themselves; the speedy parts are awesome, the more emotional ones equally impressive, the epic tunes truly reminded me of the good old days- and all of the above under a flawless production.
As far as I'm concerned, this is a regular band and not just a project. The first signs are more than encouraging, these guys kick ass! Go get DragonSlayer and find out what good heavy metal is all about.
