Hello Metal-Temple, today I'm reviewing "Lust of Wonder". A new release by DOXA, a small but great band from Spain. Since the arrival of former DARKSUN member Victor Fernandez, this is the second album released by DOXA. According to Facebook though, the band is lacking in the term of fan base. This album might help them on this aspect today as this is a strong showing of talent that I am withnessing here.
The 53 minute long album starts with "A Game of You", right away you are introduced to Rita Jimenez's vocal prowess and Dani G on the guitar. The dance of the vocals and guitars is intense all through the album, but it does have some little flaws in the first song of the album. Some notes seem a bit forced although it doesn't hurt the song at all. But "Annabel Lee" and "The Spring in You" does sound much better on that aspect.
Rita has an amazing voice, she is cut out for this kind of metal. The comparison to NIGHTWISH, DELAIN and other such epic female vocals can be made here. She brings a lot of passion to the Symphonic Power Metal that is dished out by the band. The band took inspiration from all around the world as we can see with "Creole" and even "Erin Go Bragh" which is the call to arms of Irish independence movement. It is hard not to make a link between that movement and the current separatist push from part of Spain lately.
When Dani G mixes his vocal with Rita, we get a great dialogue back and forth of two powerful vocalists like in "When a Dream Says Farewell" and "A Fool's Tarantella". Rita does have the lead throughout the album, but these interaction brings a touching feeling to the album. "Queen of Spades" is the one song of the album that Dani is taking the lead and he's bringing us a performance worth the best of the genre, reminding me a lot of STRATOVARIUS in music and vocal style.
I fell in love with DOXA, they might be small for now, but they are dreaming big and so they should. They definitely did an amazing job on this release and deserve a lot of praise. Symphonic Metal and Power Metal fans should find their fill with "Lust for Wonder".
