Downriver - Seethin' Heathen album cover

An album coming in a jewel case with full artwork is always a temptation for every Metal editor. This always shows that the band has put a lot of work on promoting its release and trying to create a nice and professional image in the scene. DOWNRIVER earned my attraction with their package and... with their music, too.

The Australian metallers were born in 2001 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia and have already one full-length release under their belt, their 2006 self titled debut album. Their debut album was released through Undertow Recordings and now they decided to release their sophomore effort on their own.

When I saw a photo of the band I couldn't help but notice their t shirts, which all betray the band's influences. Let's have one BLACK SABBATH for the start, CATHEDRAL for a heavy drink and one CORROSION OF CONFORMITY for the road. Imagine a cocktail with these ingredients. Sounds - and tastes - pretty strong, huh? The fact is that these Australian metallers have mixed their Stoner groovy influences with a Doom - and heavy as fuck may I add - background that makes their sound solid and... well, heavy! Do not expect to find anything that differs from the other Stoner releases in here or a wide variety of sounds that makes DOWNRIVER a unique band.

DOWNRIVER just play a heartfelt music with honesty and passion that will accompany you in many moments. Not an album that you must have, but a piece of work that will definitely make you have fun and listen to some good music.
