Slow, sludgy and very classic doom-metal, DOOMSHINE's name pretty much sums them up as a band. The music can't really be described as anything else. The music is incredibly slow and powerful with huge, crushing beats and very power-chord filled riffs. All seven songs are over five minutes long, and all incredibly powerful. "The End Is Worth Waiting For" is the third, long-awaited full length release from the German quartet, and in the years between their previous albums, the group has gone from strength to strength, performing at a great many prestigious European doom metal festivals.
The major influence of DOOMSHINE is obviously the classic metal movement- there are definitely some very BLACK SABBATH moments in the songs on "The End Is Worth Waiting For", which juxtapose with the much more positive vibe than their earlier material (fear not, we're not talking unicorns and fluffy bunnies).
While the album is a powerful statement, and features some pretty good guitar playing, and decent songs, there is little that makes the album stand out. It feels like a fairly middle of the road release. There isn't anything that I can pinpoint that is bad, the music is all fine, but fine is just that. Fine; there is a distinct lack of anything that really gets me excited here. The vocals are mostly clean and have a very classic Scandinavian metal feel to them, which goes well with the melodic nature of the lead guitar parts. The length of the tracks gives ample room for changes in mood and tempo within each track, and this is used widely, ranging in speeds from incredibly slow and sludgy riffs to sections which would fit in with any classic new wave of British heavy metal act.
There are definitely some good moments in "The End Is Worth Waiting For", and a lot of atmosphere, however there lacks a spark which would make it really good.
