When I received this album for review and pressed play, the music carried me away and by spending several hours with DOL THEETA having taken it's place in my playlist, I had no idea and I could never possibly believe that it's a Greek band. DOL THEETA with their debut release The Universe Expands from Electronicartmetal Records, are invading dynamically the field of Electroprog Metal and with no doubts they are going to distract the attention of the specific field's pilgrims.

Mastermind behind this, Thanasis Lightbridge, having already DOL AMMAD, moves in a harder path with influences from THERION, BAL SAGOTH, AYREON, with DOL THEETA moving a bit sideways.

The whole album is a magnificent trip, a progressive poem with guitar melodies from Dimitris Makrantonakis, to vary from real chill out up to heavy, and the only mistake I made is that I heard it during daytime. Starting with the intro Which Are You, bringing a lot to memory from Voyage 34 from PORCUPINE TREE, you start to relax and prepare your self for a constellation journey. Silver Air, kicks off the trip with psychedelic/ambient parts and a small intro in the kind AYREON have accustomed us (House On Mars from the Migrator album maybe?). Nighttime with an OZRIC TENTACLES touch (if you have heard Purgent Effulgent you will understand what I mean) and though with outbreak guitar melodies, creates a mystic feeling together with a kind of agony as the trip continues. What makes this album remarkable is that the melodies change in such way that does not allow one to feel bored. Mud with an extra dose of electronic elements carries you further in a forest (In The Forest I Found), where it is time for a synthesizer/drums-fronted dance that marries perfectly with the rest.

Every single track reveals a side of inner self, feelings fears anxiety and determination, not hope. Something Called Tomorrow unveils the fear and the curiosity for what is about to come. The synth/drum-dominated Afterlife Crescendo, together with whispering vocals follows more atmospheric metal paths, to pass to the prog Rock Everyday Goodbye and Goddess. The last two tracks could be assumed as one, as And Through A Dream acts like an intro for The Universe Expands, which, with the additional sound of bagpipes gives an ethnic touch (ENIGMA).

Of course the lyrics, dressed with the voice of Kortessa Tsifodimou, complete fully the outcome. Everything is perfectly settled to compliment the melodies before and after.
An album full of ideas, professionally mastered (assuming, from Thanasis Lightbridge himself). Quite frankly I declare that DOL THEETA will attract soon the attention they deserve. If you are into bands like PINK FLOYD, PORCUPINE TREE, OZRIC TENTACLES, AYREON, do not waste any more time and let this magnificent album get stuck in your CD player.
