DIZYGOTE are a father and son duo doom/sludge metal band from Cape Coral, Florida.  "Freedom, Incorporated," is their full length debut but also have a live ep under their belt. DIZYGOTE's sound has a lot more variety than a lot of bands of this style and it works very well for them; the album remains heavy yet the songs differentiate from each other.

The opening track,"Toenail Removal Blues," begins with oriental style guitars. The bass is fuzzy and loud, backing up the entire sound of the band but allowing the other instruments to bounce off its thick walls. The vocals are definitely more akin to stoner metal on this song but Ned has a wide variety of styles as well.  Personally, this album needed harsher vocals because all the stonerish elements tend to blend it together over time.

The drums are very well played-Ethan is consistently on point but he plays what he needs to when he has too for a style that can be as flashy as it is focused. "A Dirge" is as lumbering and slowed tempo as you could imagine but the drums keep your interest from note to note. The guitars are very dense here, like a mixture between old Mastodon and Sabbath. The ending is surprisingly chaotic with the guitar's mind bending notes and frantic drumming trying to see which one can make a brain explode first.

"Blood Tide" is a shorter, more punchy song that incorporates a heavy hardcore sound. The riffs take this energy and harness, doubling down on the doom despite the more energetic fervor and tempo in which they reside. "Narcissus En Lexus (The Collector)" is a stomper of a track, reminding me of a sped up crowbar mixed with punk rock. Everything from the riffs to the vocals hard hitting up catchy as hell. The drums really stand, ready for war and going for the throat.

The final track, "The Black Veiled Bride," has a slick melodic intro before the rumbling doom returns but much of the song seems to incorporate more Traditional hard rock but it works well enough because it gives the song a jam band type of feel.

I do feel like some of the longer songs go on longer than needed but for a debut, this album is a strong showing and it is so cool to hear a father and son creating such heavy music together. I suspect they will only get better from here-this is a band to watch out for.
