The album was superbly produced by the band itself but mixed and mastered by knobs magician Jacob Hansen (PYRAMAZE/ex BEYOND TWILIGHT)... So if you know his talented career, it's not exactly a fluke of the numbers like the QUEENSRYCHE's related "Proud" or "Redefined" are in similitude with the contemporary ANUBIS GATE sonic identity, spreading those heterogeneous elements that gives extra strength, endless surprise and refined interest to their music. The guest vocalists are Norwegian fellow Terje Harøy (PYRAMAZE/CROSSNAIL) and Brian Ashland (SHADOW GALLERY), having participated in adding textures and most of all in some delightful duets (like the very melodic touch of "Proud") with the very attaching and utterly competent Sindre Antonsen!
The almost Thrashy cut "Immortal" starts the listening session with a brutal bang and it stands as one of the most impressive introduction, at least for a Progressive ban! With at the frontline its razor sharp staccato riffage, astonishing furious vocals and the antagonist angelic pre-chorus gimmick just before leading to the mandatory beautifully orchestrated, bombastic-multi- layered-vocal hook :
It's indeed a very good entry in their very own musical thematic, the best presage for DIVIDED MULTITUDE's New Self-Titled Album (you can help the band raising money for the physical release with an IndieGogo funding campaign)!
Wow, my goodness that's an amazing song to start off this 20th anniversary celebration album, even if this kind of stylistic opposition was initiated years ago (aka boomy rhythmic vs Majestic melody)... Well, nowadays this trick is quite typical yet still efficient, it was inspired by a lot of high-profile bands in the mighty vein of SYMPHONY X/PAGAN'S MIND/VANDEN PLAS & Co... This method will be employed with equal success at the fourth scale of the tracklist with the highlight "Sacrificed" and again with the raucous "How Many Tears" (enlightened by a smart and tasteful guitar solo)!
With the second track, the introspective "Closure", we are back in the most expected sound nature and in perfect concordance with their preconceived previous delicate style, the Norwegian DIVIDED MULTITUDE are sticking more than ever to their original progressive roots, despite the very pompous and orchestral introduction, once again the chorus is splendid and brings a savory, refreshing and an soothing almost breathing element in this jungle of intricate patterns!
However, in "Only for You" the mood is less complicated but still subtle, if the arrangements are in opposition more than varied and yet in perfect pertinence when mixing styles, from soft FLOYDian Prog to some more mainstream Metallic influences, and even some really aggressive parts... Once again the coherent ambitious recipe is more than clever and tasteful... This versatility will be displayed over and over, stretched a bit more in both directions for our most rewarding, near-orgasmic listening pleasure (the pertinently titled "Redefined")!
With tracks like "Demise" (and it's surprising fading accordion final) or "Depth" where the twin-guitars work is in total brilliance, this is a particularly obvious, their genuine duality are placed in evidence for those riffs...The closing song develops with an extensive progression, "Seal of Faith", is indeed a masterful epic full of mystery and built around Harmonized backing vocals!
A damn killer disc my friends, something to rank carefully at the pinnacle next to 2015's related masterpieces like the amazing ZIERLER or "Disciples Of The Sun" by PYRAMAZE!
