Dissection - The Past Is Alive album cover

Sweden's Dissection are reissuing The Past Is Alive which is a compilation of the band's demos and earlier recordings in one cd; As for the result? keep reading.
These recordings are far more raw, brutal and intense than a studio album, as demos usually are, and the band wanted to release these rare recordings onto a proper format so they could be further shared to those who enjoy Dissection's music. But the thing is that the form is not so proper after all. I mean the music is absolutely great, full of melodic hate, speed and a big mass of aggression, but the production really sucks, ok I understand that these songs are demo songs and older recordings but since they get into the trouble of doing such a thing at least they could work at it a bit better. It's a shame for such good music to be accompanied with such a lousy production, The Past Is Alive would be even more pleasant to listen at if the production was better.

There are eleven tracks in The Past Is Alive and each one has a completely different style of music than the other but always keeping the good old combination of death, black. This whole concept results in a variety of feelings for the one who listens the CD and that's something hard to find in these days with some new upcoming bands.
Dissection'sThe Past Is Alive is an album with an awful production, but still remaining a piece of good and rare music that every black, death metal fan should have in his collection of records.
