Hailing from Treviso, Italy, this Post-Black Metal trio have set a course to explore a realm of metal where few have ventured. Having begun work in December 2013, DISPERSION have released a two-track mini-album with a little over eighteen minutes of music. This is just a sample of things to come from them, and I was left wishing they had more to release.
What I heard from those two tracks was a very atmospheric sound with subdued vocals, echoing behind the melody coming from the constant flow of the guitar. I was very impressed with their ability to incorporate a steady progression on guitar while keeping the overall tone with its feet planted firmly in the heavier sound of traditional Black Metal. The changes in rhythm keep the listener tuned in, as this overall sound is very engaging and powerful, it helps distribute the repetition that would otherwise disinterest the listener. To compare with another band in the same realm, I would have to say that DEAFHEAVEN provides a similar sonic character.
At times, I felt as though I were being propelled through the stars, giving their brand of music a very celestial presence. The ending to the second track was dark, yet uplifting and I found both songs to bring a sense of calm, as though this would not break the trance of one who is meditating. It's a difficult balance to achieve and it seems sometimes as though the songs don't sound the same each time I hear them, which speaks a lot to their depth.<
