Crossed the Line

Disoriented

A very good first album from this Grrove Metal act from Greece.

Groove Metal is a subgenre of Metal whose name can elude the fans. Although many can say that PANTERA was the creator of the genre (no one is trying to tear apart the huge contribution of the quartet to Metal here), the groove in Metal is present on the genre since the early days of the genre, as heard on the bluesy touch heard on works of BLACK SABBATH, LED ZEPPELIN, DEEP PURPLE and others. And following the tendency created on the 90s is the Greek quartet DISORIENTED, what can be heard on their first full-length, “Crossed the Line”. The quartet focuses its energy on a form of Groove Metal/Groove Thrash Metal usual for PANTERA on the days of “Vulgar Display of Power” and SEPULTURA on “Chaos A.D.” and “Roots” era, what means that their music is truly aggressive and full of energy, but there are traces of traditional Heavy Metal on the melodies (as heard on the title song), and some brutal Death Metal bits on some parts.

It’s very good, full of energy and with a massive aggressive outfit, but the band’s showing that they can deliver something better in the future. It means that they’re just beginning. The sonority shows signs that they tried to have a clear and dry outfit to make their music more aggressive, but with instrumental tunes that seems to emulate what they do on a live show (obviously the mixing and mastering were done to make things clean and defined, yet heavy and brutal). It’s really good, although their music deserves something better.

Using socio-political themes on the lyrics, the quartet boosts its aggressive music, and to Groove Metal fans, moments as “Crossed the Line” (fine complex rhythms and good melodies), “Only Gods Feel Pain” (the greasy Groove heard on the guitars is truly great), “Self Made” (some influences from the 90s are heard on this one), “Human Affected”, “Kintsugi”, “Wait for the Bullet” (this one’s energy is hard to resist, and what good snarls and screams of the vocals), “Losing Side” (fine technical appeal), “In Between” and “Bipolar” will be moments of pure delight. As said above: they’re on the right path, and evolving a bit more, no one will resist these guys’ music!

“Cross the Line” is a fine release, and depicts that DISORIENTED is stating that Groove Metal’s still alive.
