Disloyal - Godless album cover

DISLOYAL was formed in 1997 in Poland releasing their debut album "Desire" in the same year. The Polish Death Metal band has been touring and creating music ever since. While there was a break from 2009 to 2012, the members focused on music creation and performance time to other bands including: DEATHBRINGER, THY DISEASE, AMENTIA, WOE UNTO ME. DISLOYAL is back with their latest release "Godless". The album comes in with ten tracks and right at 44 minutes of listening time.

The first full listen through my initial thoughts where that's this is a pretty brutal Death Metal album. Vocals are uber low, but still audible. The album itself can get super low, but keeps a decent pitch that shows off what each member has to share. It is not a bunch of jumbled and mumbled vocals and music that some of Death Metal has turned to.

The album starts with "Abruption". The one minute and 24 second intro that sounds a bit Progressive, but has a badass bass line that intrinsically weaves in with the guitars. Speaking of bass lines, track two, "Give Place Unto Wrath (Vengeance is Mine; I Will Repay)" starts with an impeccably ode to the bass. But really, there is ode to the bass throughout this track making it one of my favorite tracks on the album. It has that intensity you look for, but it's not a complete blast beat montage of instruments and vocals.

Track four, "Dybbuk", has the pace and beat along with pretty amazing guitars scattered throughout the track. The guitars bring in the needed separation from the mundane to the magical version of Death Metal. Track five "Self-carving Titan" has a softer beginning that sets the tone for the track. It does speed up a bit, but it shows more of what the band can do with out the track being completely devoted to blast beats. The vocals are interesting in this track. They sound "different". I'm not sure if it's electronic or what but it adds a different element into a track that is full of creative goodness. This track is another favorite of mine.

Track ten, "The Chastener" is an almost six minute beauty. It has a massive amount of dark doomy-ness to it, but the guitars add a bit of pitch to the track along the way. I enjoy the drum and bass combo a lot in this track. It creates a unison sound and enhances the guitars in a brilliant way.

DISLOYAL's "Godless" is a high quality album that not only shows musicianship and creativity. It also has a refreshing overall sound. It is something different and new to listen to.
