Disintegrate - Parasites Of A Shifting Future album cover

Straightforward review here guys, no story, ok maybe a short intro. I do love combination bands, meaning: taking Death Metal and merging it with Black or Thrash Metal mainly because it makes things interesting and allows the band to break boundaries with sound, riffing and tempo or add a more melodic lines.

So we got here DISINTEGRATE with their "Parasites Of A Shifting Future" album that was self-released in 2010. Now Massacre Records is releasing it and that is a big step forward for the band after self-releasing. It is greate having a label backing you up and releasing your album. By the way, the band hails from the Netherlands, province Friesland (for all Dutch lovers). The album's genre is melodic Death / Thrash Metal, seems easy to mix, however combining fast Thrash tempo with melodic Death tempo is not an easy task at all.

The album starts with an instrumental part called "Abecedarium". It is very similar to many Thrash bands of the 80s. This track is very nice and doesn't give a clue about what is going to be in the upcoming songs next. Furthermore, it is mostly of the melodic Death direction, no Thrash here, but yet again a very nice intro. The real attack commences with "Mediacrity" which is a amalgamation of Thrash and melodic Death with low end growling, two of a kind? And a straightforward distortion attack. From beginning to end, all of the songs in the album follow the same structure and rhythm, total assault, with sections of European, melodic, Death Metal and some slow heavy sections, which I found to be a bit boring, but that's my opinion after all.

The only song that strays from the path the band follows is "The Subtle Decay" with a more melodious opening and a nice female voice alongside the lead vocals. Overall a nice song that, as I said, strays from the route and it's for me. The only beacon of light on the album.

"Parasites Of A Shifting Future" didn't appeal to me, however I'm sure that it will charm to people that like total assault with few melodic sections, brutal vocals and without a hint of sophistication. By the way, if you go all out for the attack try to find some uniqueness in the growling section, many can growl but few do it with a style of their own.
