Spiral Crypts
Disembodiment

To be into any Old School Metal genre isn’t a kind of hardened ideology, but a way that must be spontaneous from the musicians to the fans. It means that no one just plays Old School Metal genres because they like them, but it’s what flows from the hearts of musicians, and no one need to be forced to do so. And a fine example of Old School Death Metal can be heard on “Spiral Crypts”, of the Canadian Death Metal soothsayers of DISEMBODIMENT.
Christian (the band’s guitarist) took care of the mixing, with Carlo Altobelli (of CAMPOSANTO and VISION DEPRIVED, and a known sound engineer/producer who owns Toxic Basement Studio in Milan, Italy, and signs works with acts as BULLDOZER, ATTOMICA, CRIPPLE BASTARDS, MUTILATOR, CRYPTIC SLAUGHTER, EYEHATEGOD, NECRODEATH and others) signs the art-finale on the mastering, and things were done in a way to grant the album an Old School Death Metal ambience, but with a defined and understandable outfit (but that can be better in the future). And the sickening artwork of Slimeweaver for the cover states clear that this is Old School Death Metal release.
The quartet brings a form that Old School Death Metal similar to North American School in some points (as the good technical work in some moments), and from the Swedish Death Metal School on others (as some Hardcore influenced parts, as heard on “Spiral Crypts”). It’s an honest album, full of energy and depicts a band that can offer a lot to Death Metal fans as they evolve more and more.
Old School Death Metal influenced by the acts of the 90s is what can be heard on “Morbid Infestation”, “Stygian Overture”, “Spiral Crypts”, “Putrification”, “Larval”, “Infected to Rot”, “Unknown Origins” and “Sentient Inorganic Mess”, with very good death growls, sharp and insane guitar riffs and technical and heavy work on bass guitar and drums. It’s still a bit immature, but they’re in the right way.
“Spiral Crypts” is a very good release, and depicts the potential of DISEMBODIMENT. But the band should consider to have a second guitar in the future to expand their possibilities.
