DISCURE are a Punk / Metal / "Bananengrind" band (which I'm assuming means "Bananagrind" in English) from Austria. As you can see from the Band listing below, the group seem to have quite a fondness for the yellow fruit. With that in mind, I expected to see song titles and hear lyrics all about bananas in their self-titled EP, but this wasn't the case. The 5-track release is in fact rather serious, in terms of the complexity and intensity of the music. I suppose they could be singing about bananas, or there could be a subliminal message in their somewhere, although it's hard to tell through Stefan Geissler and Jörg Varga's enraged screams.

Track number one, "Nullrunde" (Freeze) begins with intense distortion from Mauro and Michael's guitars, and is soon accompanied by Domsch's drumming. The rhythm is funky and extremely Metal, and is likely to get you hooked. It is almost halfway through the song that the vocals come in, providing vicious growls and screams which build up the angst.  Next up is "Der Pegel Steigt" (The Level Rises), which does in fact raise the level. The vocals come in at the beginning, and the riffs are extremely rapid, as is the double kick. There's even a guitar solo in the final minute of this short track, which makes things all that more interesting. "Wertverlust" (Depreciation) kicks off with a funky drum beat, and the vocals and guitars are quick to follow. The musical complexity certainly doesn't depreciate, and there's even a breakdown to bring forth some groovy brutality. The second-last track again showcases the catchy riff work of the guitarists, as well as the malevolence of the vocals. "Das Letzte Korn" (The Last Grain) effectively illustrates DISCURE's impressive synchronicity as a band, with David's bass and Domsch's drumming doing an exceptional job of keeping things funky. Last up is "Vergessen Statt Ekstase" (To Forget Instead Of Ecstasy), which also has an addictive rhythm, and features awesome work by all band members. A great track to end the EP, and summarize DISCURE's sound.

Although only containing 5 tracks, Discure gives the listener an impressive taste of more music to come from this Austrian six-piece. So, if you like all things heavy and Austrian, check out DISCURE.
