Exception, extraordinary, unique, original or as it really is DISAFFECTED's "Rebirth". All of the above describes this album and this extraordinary band. It was very difficult for me to attach DISAFFECTED to a title or a genre because it is so original a unique. But I believe they are Progressive Death Metal band: I've heard a lot of Death Metal Bands but what makes DISAFFECTED so great is the décor: Guitars and Keyboards riffs and solos, irregular rhythms by the bass and drum but the special addition are the flute and the French horn; Unfortunately the only band I've heard to use a classical genre instruments were DREAM THEATER at "Octaverium" (Which is by far one of my favorite albums of all times) so I'm glad to hear such a special instruments at this specific genre.

"Rebirth" is not a concept album, well not on the lyrical point of view but listening to the instrumental combination and cooperation I can say without a doubt that this is an instrumental concept album. The credit goes to the brilliant bass and drum work by António Gião and Octávio Custódio: Amazing and powerful corporation for these two- Bravo.

Many Progressive Metal fans wouldn't agree with me that the fact that the leading vocalist, José Costa is a good choice for DISAFFECTED.The fact the he uses half recitation, half growl is actually pretty interesting and very "fit" to the main theme of the album. "Rebirth" is basically bringing someone that was among the living to the living world once again but DISAFFECTED meant to tell us that we live and throughout our lives we "die"- we lose ourselves to people that are effecting us and to the routine we all live and to disappointments and so on. Rebirthof the mind over the body and over obstacles that life put us through is so powerful and meaningful and I think that DISAFFECTED have managed to bring the truth of what rebirth is to my ears. Sometimes rebirth is to let something go and to forgive someone or to forgive yourself for things you couldn't let go, on in another words: Rebirth = to step out of our comfort zone: It's easy to die, it's hard to rebirth.
