Dirt Woman - The Glass Cliff album cover

DIRT WOMAN is an Ocean City, Maryland four-piece that swing forth a crushing hammer of Doom Psychedelia. The quartet has a WINDHAND meets OM, ELECTRIC WIZARD notion to it. Lots of fuzz, riffs, power and bass. The band formed in 2017, and is named after, the late Donnie Corker, a crossdressing activist out of Richmond, VA. Definitely something for me to check into later, as just the premise of such seems insurmountable to resist.

Vocalist Zoe Koch channels a Dorthea Cottrell-like smokiness, but with less pensiveness, (thus the WINDHAND mention) while anchoring the rhythm end of the dual guitar assault paired with Solomon, big fuzzed out sound. Starting low and meeting in the middle are brothers in life and rhythm, Kearny (Bass) and Avery (Drums) Mallon. Together as a band, the four create an expansive sonic landscape dripping with psychedelic visions of an imminent doom. "The Glass Cliff" runs through only five tracks, but still manages to achieve a substantive hour in length. The first track, "Lady of the Dunes" is the shortest tale, at a still far-reaching 7 ½ minutes. As such, it's the most direct trip the band takes on the album, appropriately setting the table as the band takes things deeper into trippy consciousness.

"Creator" loquaciously roams across at just over 13 minutes. "Fades to Greed" then scales back setting things up for like hanging curve ball for the massiveness that is "Demagogue" and my personal standout. Finally, it's "Starhawk" that along with it's direct predecessor creates a staggering one-two closing blow that provides a lesson hard learned. Lyrically, musically and production-wise things are all well done here. "The Glass Cliff" is one of those albums you can throw on, turn up loud and adjust one's attitude to. DIRT WOMAN is a band with a trajectory of promise. Definitely an album I'd recommend you check out sooner than later. Enjoy.
